Having practiced making Fringed Flowers ( either with scissors or fringing machine if you are lucky enough to have one) why not try this project?  It will certainly give you plenty more practice making fringing!

Save or print out this pattern for a guide to fringed flower placement etc.

Paper Strip Materials ( plus usual quilling tools, glue, scissors, card and border punch if desired)

  •  3 shades of yellow 9mm wide (or all one shade if preferred) in 3 x 24 inch strips, cut these into sections of about 12 cm each after fringing.
  • Deep green 4 x 24 in  3mm wide strips for the stems and the marquise shapes ( loose roll leaves, which are precut before winding around tool at a length of 8 cm each)

Method and construction:

Fringed Flowers ( make 20 in total)

Pre fringe the strips before cutting them into individual flower lengths. See Fringed flower section for details on how to make a fringed flower.

  • Cut the fringed yellow ( assorted shades) strips into 12cm lengths and roll each one around a PCA Quilling tool and secure the free end to itself with adhesive.
  • Using the edge of your quilling tool shaft(needle) curl the outer fringing over to round out the shape of the flowerhead to form a mushroom shape in each case.

Stems and Leaves

Make 12 leaves by making loose rolls of the deep green paper strip, each a length cut to 8 cm.  Adhere the free end to itself after relaxing the roll a little OFF the tool.

Pinch these loose roll shapes at both ends to form the characteristic marquise/leaf shape.

The stems are made in the same manner as Project 1 ...by doubling up a strip of green paper and gluing it to itself on it's inner sides ( making thicker stem) and leaving ends free where shown for scrolling ( loosely rolling the paper around the tool, removing from tool and adhering to card in final desired position.)

Use the black and white pattern guide( not real life size) to show you where to lay the scrolled stems and the marquise shape leaves and of course, the fringed flower heads.

Decorate the edge of your card with a border punch if desired as I did.

Now go back to the course SECTION 9 - Paper Weaving
