SECTION 4 - LOOSE ROLL SHAPES

Loose rolls are the basis of so many shapes....

Once you have wound a tight roll and allowed it to relax slightly, glue the end and try your hand at one of these shapes.  I will show you how:

A basic loose roll, a tight roll with the end adhered after allowing it to slightly uncoil to desired size. The size you let it relax out to is the size of the end result shape, so be sure that you make them all equal if you intend to put several shapes together to make a flower, one for each petal.

AFTER GLUING THE END OF A LOOSE ROLL TRY THESE...

A Teardrop shape: made by pinching one end of a loose roll, great flower petals.

Shaped teardrop: variation of above, just curl downward, the pinched point.

A Marquise shape: made by pinching the loose roll at opposing ends to create this eye shape, also good for flower petals or filling in a large area in a pictorial project with many marquise shapes.

Shaped Marquise: made as basic marquise shape above but then twist the points at the ends in opposite curved directions.

Bunny Ears:  Make these by pinching the loose roll at both sides of the top of the roll. these are very handy for flowers too.

Rectangle or Square

Square; Make these by making a MARQUISE shape , turn it 90 degs pinch again ... and then do that for the opposite 3 sides.

Rectangle: Make a MARQUISE and turn it slightly and then pinch it again on it's 2 opposite sides.

Crescent shape: make a TEARDROP and then pinch another point not quite opposite your first pinch and curl the 2 points toward each other.

Arrow shape:  Pinch a loose roll to a point on one side and then push in  the opposite end in it's middle. Sharpen the points beside the dent to form this shape.

Half Circle shape: flatten one side of a loose roll by pinching the circle in 2 points the bottom.

Holly leaf shape: Make a loose roll and pinch 5 or 6 points, encouraging the indent between each with your fingertip.

Triangle shape: With a loose roll pinch 3 points at the same time, pressing the sides with your thumb and forefinger as you go.

Obviously there are more shapes that you can make by pinching in different places, these however are probably the most commonly used.
